Hiking in and rafting out was perfect to experience both aspects of the Grand Canyon. Due to the elements of nature, my private trip (aka not with GCW) lost ALL of our boats at Mat Kat. Whenever I've incorporated those features in a raft I find the one on the front makes it easier to beach between rocks and if you back the protruding bits of the raft onto a wrecks mast it won't flip and gives you a safe way to get back to the raft as I've noticed if you stick to a mast when diving sharks can't touch youor don't touch you anyway.
